Abstract/Summary:
This thesis investigates the use of Integrated Product Design (IPD) as it applies to the development of a motorcycle disc brake system. IPD is a more robust and effective method for the development of mechanical components and assemblies. Various aspects of the product development cycle are investigated and illustrated here. The core of IPD is the use of a common database formed around the solid model of the component or assembly. The development of the solid model, rapid prototyping methods, Finite Element Analysis, and mass property calculations are also discussed.
