| In this paper, a new improved median filter (IMF) is presented which removes the impulse noise and preserves the details of an image. The IMF is a combination of the median filter (MF) and the multilevel median filter (MLM). Several nonlinear functions are used to select or combine the outputs of the median filter and the multilevel median filter, and no computation of local statistics is involved. Experimental results are presented to demonstrate the performance of the improved median filter. |
