Abstract/Summary:
This thesis addresses three areas in the field of fiber lasers: theoretical study of general fiber ring compound resonators and a new all-fiber compound-ring resonator: fabrication of a single-longitudinal-mode compound-ring Er;A general fiber ring compound resonator refers to a fiber ring resonator consisting of two coupled-resonators. It has the advantages of potentially large free spectral range and the flexibility of engineering design, but requires a more complicated mathematical treatment. In this thesis, first of all, an unfolded equivalent model of the resonator is conceptually built by decomposing one fiber ring compound resonator into two ring resonators. Then transfer matrix method is used for the theoretical analysis.;Based on a general model of a fiber ring compound resonator, a new all-fiber travelling-wave compound-ring resonator is designed for an Er;Based on this proposed novel resonator, a single-longitudinal-mode compound-ring Er;The stability of the laser frequency is studied in detail. By using an active lock-in amplifier feedback loop, the modehops in this single-longitudinal-mode laser have been eliminated, but the laser frequency suffers from a small concomitant frequency dithering. A new double-dithering method has been specially designed to cancel this concomitant frequency dithering. The measured stability of single-frequency output is within 5 kHz in a short term (about 2 seconds).;The noise characteristic of the laser output power is also studied. The high frequency noises (;Finally, some further improvements on this compound-ring Er...
