As a new type of laser and regarded as the representative of the third generation of laser, fiber laser has been a hot topic in this field. Owing to so many virtues as good light quality, high efficiency, wavelength diversity, good compatibility, simply structure, easy using, low price and so on, fiber laser is widely used in domains of fiber communication, fiber sensing, manufacturing, medical treatment, military affairs and national defence. At the same time, these industries' rapid development demands fiber lasers to increase the power, reduce the threshold, exploit new bands broad their tunable wavelength, realize all-fiber system and get smaller, more intelligent and diverse.The Erbium-doped fiber ring laser is an important kind of fiber laser. It's comparably simpler and cheaper, so that it is highly valuable for fiber detecting, medical facilities, and laboratory equipment. Deep study of this type of laser will help to improve its performance, while independently development will reduce the cost and do good to related projects.This paper aims to research on fiber laser's principle and characteristics, searching for methods to improve its performance, and developing a kind of Erbium-doped fiber ring laser fiber based on fiber Bragg grating (FBG).At first, laser's basic structure and main types are introduced, and fiber laser's makeup, class, characteristics and practical value are presented. Then based on a mass of references, this thesis shows fiber laser's research situation, home and abroad, and discusses practical problems. A plenty of material indicates that fiber lasers have a good prospect.Secondly, to begin with laser's basic theories and fiber laser's element, this thesis analyzes characteristics and principles of the fiber laser's key components in detail, including laser bump's usage and selection, erbium-doped fiber's structure, physical performance and principle, several kinds of ring cavity and their principles. At the end, two methods, velocity equation and semi-classical theory are used to analyze erbium-doped fiber laser model.In the third part, on the basis of laser diode's important traits and bump module's principle, a pump driver is designed and produced. And by the action of the pump drier, 980nm bump laser is obtained as a preparation for the development of Erbium-doped fiber laser in the next part. Design thought, basic structure and circuits of the driver are given, and further more, principle and debugging procedures are detailed.Subsequently, an FBG-based erbium-doped fiber ring laser system is designed and implemented. Methods to design the main parameters are talked about and stable intense laser is achieved as the result of experiment.Finally, this thesis analyzes factors that result in the instability, talked about how to improve it and points out deficiency in the work as a guide to following development.
