All-optical signal processing technology is not only the support of all-opticalcommunication technology, but also play a more and more important role in the future opticalcommunications. All-optical multi-wavelength conversion and multi-wavelength clock recoverytechnology can increase the rate and bandwidth of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM)optical network greatly. At the same time, the cost and complexity of the regenerative systemcan be reduced by using these technologies. Fiber ring laser based on Semiconductor OpticalAmplifier (SOA) has very important functions in future intellectualized densewavelength-division multiplexed (DWDM) all-optical networks, such as multi-wavelength lightsource, multi-wavelength converter, multi-wavelength clock recovery and so on. Themulti-wavelength SOA fiber ring laser (SFRL) has obvious advantages. For instance, it hassimple implementation, less cost and complexity and so on. In this thesis, theoretical researcheson multi-wavelength conversion and multi-wavelength clock recovery based on cross-gainmodulation (XGM) in SFRL are proposed. The main achievements and conclusions are listed asfollows:1) The research signification of multi-wavelength conversion and multi-wavelength clockrecovery are analyzed. The research background of multi-wavelength conversion,multi-wavelength clock recovery and multi-wavelength SFRL are summarized.2) The broad-band model of multi-wavelength SFRL is established, in the model, the activearea of SOA is divided into small sections, and the gain spectrum, the carrier and the lightfield distribution of SOA, the transfer function of comb filter used in this paper areconsidered. Based on the theoretical analysis of static and dynamic characteristics in SFRLby using the theoretical model, the multi-wavelength SFRL is achieved successfully and theoperating parameters affect its performance are investigated.3) A broadcast-style scheme based on XGM in SFRL is presented, the characteristics ofmulti-wavelength SFRL are analyzed. The impact of input signal power, injection currentintensity and the input signal wavelength on the output characteristics are studied, besides,the impact of rate on frequency chirp is also investigated. Meanwhile, multi-wavelength conversion based on a signal SOA according to the segmentation model is achieved. At last,we compare the two different schemes.4) A multi-wavelength clock recovery scheme based on XGM in multi-wavelength SFRL ispresented, 4Gb/s and 10Gb/s return-to-zero (RZ) multi-wavelength clock recovery areobtained in theory. The impact of the input signal power, injection current and symbol rateon the clock signal quality are analyzed in this paper.
