Abstract/Summary:
With CORBA becoming more popular, some OMG members wanted to bring the benefits of CORBA into the world of Real-Time computing. The OMG Real-Time Special Interest Group was formed to manage the process of inclusion of Real-Time support to CORBA. The process from the creation of the working group to the implementation of a Real-Time ORB will take approximately three years. With less than half of the time spent, the concepts and ideas are starting to form and are becoming concrete. Recently, there have been a few proposals made on specific ways of handling the RT support inclusion. This thesis is such a proposal.; This thesis proposes to use the Internet stream protocol to provide a maximum message latency across an IP network. Additional services required to guarantee the Real-Time performance of objects operating in the CORBA environment, such as global time, scheduling and initialisation are discussed.
