Abstract/Summary:
Data networks are a constantly evolving subject in the field of computer science. They are continuously growing in terms of their use and size. Therefore it is important to establish means to control the network performance and configurations in order to minimize the costs, as the network topology or configuration changes.; These changes can take place due to various reasons such as different switching carriers, changes in leased line agreements and new customer requirements.; The research completed for this thesis focuses on the inter-working of frame relay and ATM based on an existing company in Egypt (MobiNil, GSM Company).; Egypt Net (Egyptian Data Network Company) is the sole data network provider in Egypt and covers the entire country. It provides MobiNil, GSM Company the required leased lines, Frame Relay, ATM and microwave links. The objective of the study was to reduce the cost of the links between offices and head quarters and give high connectivity performance by interworking both protocols together (ATM and Frame Relay). This achieved considerable savings in equipment, materials and labor costs.; Accordingly it was necessary for MobiNil to perform certain additional configuration adjustments and calibration to establish a fully functional system.
