With the development of mobile communication technology, the increasing number of nodes, the mobility signaling load cost increasing, the number of users growing rapidly, the traffic increased dramatically, the transfer rate of rapid growing, either voice or data service requires a higher bandwidth. Transmission bandwidth based on the2Mbit/s has been unable to meet the future wireless data service of large bandwidth requirements, both2G and3G network evolves towards the direction of the whole IP framework.But at this stage, the bandwidth provided by the frame relay in GPRS network is limited, one E1only supports bandwidth of2M, and the number of E1supported by the SGSN side is limited either. In the current situation, data traffic increases substantially, adopting Gb Over FR technology will cause the use of El port number increases considerably, and network maintenance and expansion costs continue to increase, while changing the interface to Over-IP can effectively improve the situation.By adopting Gb over IP technology, we can realize mobile communication network structure simplification and optimization. It supports network flexibility and the best use of the transmission bandwidth. Thereby, it can save network investment and operation cost for mobile operators. When adopting Gb over IP technique, we can make the layout of the Gb bandwidth according to the IP network or link overall in the BSS room. IP adaptability and flexibility are fully incarnated; so network planning based on Gb over IP is more suitable for business growth. According to the above situation, the construction of GPRS network based on the Gb over IP is very important.In this thesis, I mainly elaborated the background of Gb over IP technology in GPRS core network construction; GPRS core network architecture; the protocols involved; GPRS core network construction process; application of Gb over IP technology in GPRS core network construction; Gb over IP application analysis; Comparison of Gb over IP and Gb over frame relay, what are the advantages of Gb over IP; and the possible problems; as well as the solutions.
