Abstract/Summary:
New web-based programs such as Google Drive and Achieve 3000 can be used in the classroom to prepare students for their future careers, help meet the needs of diverse learners, and engage students in collaborative activities. Achieve 3000 is a web-based reading program that differentiates non-fiction articles for students in grades K-12 based on Lexile levels. Google Drive is another web-based application. Drive allows users to create documents, spreadsheets, and presentations on the cloud and share them with collaborators. Files can be accessed from any computer with Internet access. Schools have purchased these programs with the expectation that teachers will integrate the technology into their daily teaching. In this study, both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods were employed to determine teacher preparedness and comfort level with integrating technology. The methods used included a 4-point Likert scale survey, an open-ended questionnaire, and teacher interviews. The data revealed that teachers want to incorporate technology in their teaching but feel limited in their ability to do so. Teachers are more likely to implement new technology platforms if they are properly trained and do not have anxiety about using technology, in general.
