Abstract/Summary:
The major contribution of this thesis consists of two main parts. The first contribution is a classification of the wireless environment within an aircraft, including tests of two different wireless devices. Even though the environment is metallically loaded, communication was shown to be possible at the 900-MHz and the 200-MHZ ranges. Second, further development of the system and methods used to test the health of the wires. The integer FFT was implemented and tested in the sentient instrument controller (SIC) to eliminate the need for a PC and make the system function autonomously. These two topics are somewhat different, but their application to the overall problem of maintaining the safety of aircraft brings them together.
