Abstract/Summary:
This thesis explores teaching entrepreneurship to students in a college/university-level electrical engineering program. The entrepreneurial process is discussed and then used to determine what impact an electrical engineering education has on students starting new companies. In order to build an overview of current practices in this field, entrepreneurship education programs at many different types of institutions (elementary schools, high schools, colleges, trade schools, and correctional facilities) are discussed. Along with the current practices, support for entrepreneurship education in the form of private foundations is discussed. Once the support for entrepreneurship education is established, the entrepreneurship program offered at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) is discussed in some detail. This helps to establish the fundamentals necessary to build a nationally recognized program in this area. Finally, different program development issues are discussed and final recommendations for future development are made using the program at UNR as a focal point.
