Abstract/Summary:
Due to the changing health care climate, nurses are expected to provide care in a cost effective manner which includes reducing costs, improving outcomes, and ensuring that patients have a shorter length of stay. The purpose of this study was to test the effectiveness of a financial management educational module among ED nurses at increasing their knowledge of financial management principles.;This study uses a one group pre-test intervention, and post-test methodology using 39 registered nurses working in a Level I Trauma Center in North Central Texas. Their pre-test/post-test scores were analyzed using paired t-tests which showed a significant gain in scores (p = 0.000). Mean gain score was 20 points. Using individual samples t-tests, no difference was found between groups with different educational levels.;The implications of this study are directed to nursing education and nursing administration. This module presents an effective method of teaching nurses the information that is necessary for them to work cost effectively.
