Abstract/Summary:
Public transportation system planning can be defined as the interaction of four components: the transportation professional, the planning tools, the transit system and its environment.; On the one hand, this document presents a definition of each component. The overall planning context has undergone a spatio-temporal evolution according to social, economical, urban, decision-making and technological characteristics which directly influence the people's traveling behaviors. Consequently, the updating of the transportation planning implies the study of this evolution as well as the understanding of its impact on those behaviors.; On the other hand, this research studies the different possibilities of the MADITUC's totally disaggregate approach when applied to public transportation system planning. The target is to improve the understanding of the actual transportation situation in order to clarify the new preoccupations of public transportation companies.; Besides initiating a research process and developing a critical mind, the goal of this research is to present a new perspective of the actual planning process. Therefore, the following elements are treated: the mandate of the transportation professional is scrutinized, the planning overall context updated and the strategic preoccupations analyzed in order to apply the appropriate methodological approach. The object of this study is thus to clarify the methodology process that allows the simplification of different problems encountered by professionals in the transportation industry.
