Abstract/Summary:
Tremendous research works have been focused on CMOS power amplifier design in recent years due to its low cost and integration benefits. However, there are many challenges in the design of fully integrated CMOS PA due to its low breakdown voltage and lossy substrate. To overcome these limitations, transformer combining techniques have been intensively studied. In this thesis, a two-stage differential power amplifier in IBM 130nm CMOS technology is presented with the transformer optimized at 2.4GHz. 28dB of power gain is achieved with the 1dB compression point at 25dBm. The output referred IP3 is 34.6 dBm.
