Abstract/Summary:
Electrical wires carry both power and data signals in an aircraft. The frays on the wires and intermittent interruption can be responsible for aircraft fires.; Research to date, including reflectometry methods, focus on finding faults by injecting signals on to the wiring, but are problematic for live wires because of concerns of interfering with the aircraft signal or because the aircraft signal corrupts the sensor. In this thesis, we analyzed the prospect of using the signals that are already on the wires to detect the health of the wires or the overall system that produced them.; The research in this thesis uses current sensors to capture the current signatures on the wire and analysis is done on the time domain current signal and conclusions are made. Investigation of the signals by inducing real-time faults on the wires is also a part of this research.
