Abstract/Summary:
Developing mobile technologies for facilitating learning processes is becoming a hot research and development topic. Research questions include usability, acceptability and other aspects of mobile applications which help students gain knowledge. They also include feasibility aspects of technological solutions in reference to user friendly application operations. Particularly, this thesis addresses the design of an "Image Processing Toolbox" for Electrical and Computer Engineering students that can be used as a template library to develop new applications and use as a quick reference for image processing algorithms. It also studies interaction of mobile devices with servers for advanced applications and delays occurring during this communication which may degrade usability. Experimental measurements are used to model delays using analytical distribution functions such as gamma, log-normal, and Weibull distributions. Kolmogorov-Smirnov (K-S) approach is used to see if the distributions provide good approximations to the measured data. The tool has been offered to Electrical and Computer Engineering students as learning support software and their feedback has been collected and analyzed.
