Abstract/Summary:
Recent improvements in video and communication technologies create many opportunities to develop more sophisticated Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) applications than ever before. The ability to view a video stream from anywhere at anytime has become a significant requirement for CCTV.; As wireless technology improves, expands and becomes more affordable for the common user, applications of wireless computing could help revolutionize video monitoring systems. Using this very idea as a motivational foundation for this thesis, we present a model for deployment of real-time low-bandwidth video to multiple mobile phones for the purpose of video monitoring. This model takes into account existing network interfaces and the limited capabilities of many mobile phones. The main methods used are multithreading, image processing techniques such as dithering, spatial compression of video stream and the thin client architecture.
