Abstract/Summary:
This study utilized a case study approach to examine Every Nation Toronto and Mississauga City Baptist Church. These churches are self-identified multiethnic congregations (MEC) in Toronto, Canada. The central focus of the study was to identify key organizational characteristics of a model MEC that led to inclusivity and division of power. Aspects of both congregations' concentration of ethnic minorities, leadership, worship style, organizational intentionality and cross cultural engagement were observed. Findings suggested that these proposed indicators each correlated positively with the establishment of a multiethnic identity in varying degrees. These findings suggest the existence of common traits possessed by MECs. When used as a framework, these traits may assist congregations in formulating intentional strategies for cross-cultural ministry and racial reconciliation.
