Multiethnic Villages Language

Pomian is a multiethnic village which is in Zhenfeng county of Guizhou province. This village is mainly inhabited by Gelao, Miao, Buyi and Han nations. Peoples there use their own national languages. Compared with other national languages, Chinese dialect becomes the main communication tool among different ethnics. Some minority nations can use other minority languages, a few Han persons can also use some minority languages. Under such kind of situation, other minority languages may also become the main communication tool in different ethnic groups. So, in Pomian village, the situation in language use, language attitude and language relationship is relatively special.In Pomian village, the main languages used by Gelao, Miao, Buyi and communities are their nationals, but the cross-community language is mainly Chinese dialects. All the languages have played a major role in national communication. In addition, each ethnic group has a strong sense of national identity in their own native language, meanwhile they hold the open attitudes to the other national languages, Chinese dialects and Mandarin language.Pomian is a typical multiethnic village. Due to many ethnic groups, more bilingual people have came up in the course of daily interaction.There are many bilingual types, such as the union between national language and Chinese, the Chinese and national language, the two national languages. In the village, the ethnic languages relationship and ethnic relationship are more harmonious, relationship between Han and ethnic minorities is also harmonious. All of them reflect a harmonious language life.In the course of data collecting, this paper mainly adopts questionnaires, observation and interviews, and data statistics, analysis and induction are also used in the process of writing.The use of survey methodology and research methods have made the idea and structure clearer, made the data and results of this paper more reliable.Studies about language use in multiethnic village can help us to understand the language use in ethnic minority areas, provide a reference on protection of linguistic diversity and rescue of endangered languages. Language investigation and analysis in Pomian is a good example which can provide many research materials about language use in multiethnic villages.
