Abstract/Summary:
In this thesis I will analyze how gamers socially interact on LiveJournal. The LiveJournal website is an online social networking website, with an emphasis on blogging or journaling. LiveJournal allows the members of this social network to form communities where members can write about and share their common interests with other community members. This analysis is approached by studying 100 threads gathered at random from 10 LiveJournal Communities which were also selected at random. While in game chatting is usually included with online games as an option for them to interact, many gamers prefer using LiveJournal Communities. Within these communities the following interaction types were found; gaming interaction, general socializing, cooperation, arranging a meeting, shopping for games, game reviews, conversation about games, sharing links, pictures and email. LiveJournal Communities allow for interactions with more functionality than the text only chat format offered within many online games.
