Abstract/Summary:
Decision Support Systems are a strategic response to changing business conditions. The objective of this thesis is to develop a DSS with its focus being Work I n Process (WIP) tracking and related functionalities. The focus of WIP tracking technology is the shared use of information by marketing, engineering, production and other operations of the manufacturing firm. The integration of computer systems can help to make more extensive and timely use of information which can have a dramatic impact on cost, quality and cycle times. Smaller companies need to maintain an edge in order to survive competitive market conditions. This includes the need to reduce lead times, the need to guarantee product quality (accurate operations and process control) and an environment for supplying users with data in order to make operational decisions. This study concerns a methodology to develop and implement a WIP tracking via the use of a DSS.
