Abstract/Summary:
This thesis introduces a 2 GHz continuous-time (CT) 4th order current-mode (CM) band-pass CMOS Delta Sigma Modulator (DSM) implemented with a novel fully balanced active inductor. This proposed active inductor takes advantage of the positive feedback topology and features accurate loss compensation as well as independent tunability of quality factor and resonant frequency. Based on this active inductor, A CM ultra high frequency (UHF) CM resonator is also proposed, permitting small chip area for the designed CM CT DSM. Moreover, a high speed current comparator working with single clock signal is also introduced to eliminate circuit complex and improve resolution. With those CM components, a 2 GHz continuous-time 4th order CM band-pass DSM is implemented in TSMC 0.18um CMOS technology and shows a peak SNDR of 51.9 dB and power consumption of 30 mW.
