Abstract/Summary:
Many organizations struggle to implement statistical process control (SPC). Peter Cheng and Samuel Dawson (1998) studied SPC implementation in ten factories in the UK They discovered that inadequate training was the primary obstacle to SPC implementation, and provide recommendations for improvement. Inadequate training is an even bigger problem for organizations specializing in short production runs such as small computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine shops that have limited or nonexistent training budgets. SPC training programs almost universally neglect short production run applications. This project applies Cheng and Dawson's training recommendations to develop an SPC training program constructed toward short production run applications.
