This thesis addresses the controversy surrounding the teaching of the Fables of Jean de La Fontaine, a renowned French author of the Classical Age widely read in French schools. In the first part, it explores the multiple interpretations of this work written at the end of the 17th century, inspired by antiquity but still in use today. It explains why the French school system has used the Fables to culturally unify the country and how its author is to this day a valued part of the French cultural identity. The thesis unveils the humor and agelessness of the Fables Furthermore, it stresses the therapeutic value of these stories and their importance in the development of children.;The second part of the thesis offers several practical pedagogical lesson plans based on a selection of fables dealing with the social aspect of student life to facilitate one's insertion in society. The goal of these modern pedagogies mirrors one of La Fontaine's intentions in writing the Fables in that his texts conceal their didactic role.
