Lushi Chunqiu Of Fables Research

Lushi Chunqiu is an encyclopedic Chinese classic text compiled during Warring Statesperiod under the patronage of the Qin Dynasty Chancellor Lv Buwei and his stuff. LvshiChunqiu absorbed the ideas from the hundred schools of thought, and it served to the unitingof Qin state.This book belongs to the Zajia(杂家mixed schools) and combines different thoughts.Although in the academic world, there are mixed views on Lvshi Chunqiu, no one would denythe significance of the part of the fables in this book. There is a large amount of fablesrecorded in the Lvshi Chunqiu and the connotation is abundant. Moreover, the fables are theisotopic carriers which contained the book’s views. Though it is very hard to define fable, inthis paper the author would choose the standards set by Qing Pu. Chen, that is the authorwould take the283fables listed in Chen’s The History of Chinese Fables as the discussionbase.In this paper, the author discussed Lvshi Chunqiu in four sections. the fist section isIntroduction, which introduced the background of the compliement process of Lvshi Chunqiuand the value of it. The second section stated that the fable themes of Lvshi Chunqiu closelyrelated to Chinese ancient fables and what are the sources of the fables and analyzed thecontent and of Lvshi Chunqiu. The third one is the key part of this paper, it analyzed theartistic characteristics of Lvshi Chunqiu. The author discussed the rhetoric, figure, andnarrative styles of this book in the paper. The last part was divided into two sides. One is thefeature of Lvshi Chunqiu and its legacy to other fables; another is the long-term influence onthe development of future Chinese literature.Based on previous academic studies, this paper comprehensively, meticulously andobjectively explored Lvshi Chunqiu. Even if this paper may not create new study direction tothe studies of Lvshi Chunqiu, the author wishes these study results can help people have betterunderstanding of Lvshi Chunqiu and pay more attention to this area. Also the author firmlybelieves the discussion of Lvshi Chunqiu will still deeply affect the future ancient Chineseliterature research.
