Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was to examine the differences in Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 (DM-2) self-efficacy before and after diabetes empowerment group education for individuals newly diagnosed with DM-2. Self-efficacy was measured using the Diabetes Attitude Questionnaire (DAQ). A convenience sample of individuals (N=4) newly diagnosed with DM-2 was surveyed attending DM empowerment group education over a three month period.;While the means of DM-2 self-efficacy before and after education were not statistically significant (T=1.64, p=0.100), the change in scores could be viewed as clinically significant. Total mean DAQ scores before education were 104.33 compared to the mean after education of 124.50. Future research is needed to assess factors affecting self-efficacy of individuals newly diagnosed with DM-2.
