Abstract/Summary:
A Million Faces, One Heart is a musical cabaret that explores universal life experiences, and the importance of loving those around us. Through a company of actors singing musical theatre repertoire that reflects universal life experiences, linked by video recorded interviews about people's worldviews, we explored the variety of life paths that people are on and the power in that varied experience.;This paper begins with a brief history of musical theatre, the usefulness of a cabaret performance, and research on obtaining musical rights. There is a detailed log of the creative process, as well as documented journal entries following each rehearsal. It took quite a bit of scrutiny and dedication to put everything together, but the result was a show that flowed nicely and was well received by audience members.;Following the performance, audience members were asked to fill out a short feedback sheet and were invited to discuss the performance with the production team and actors over refreshments. There was a lot of positive feedback, and the people seemed excited and inspired by the piece.;Through this experience, I grew immensely as a theatre artist. My skills as a director were put to the test through the creative process, exercised during rehearsals, and stretched during the post-show production meeting. Everyone who was a part of this show in one way or another was inspired by the others involved, which further proved the power of community support.
