Under the background of globalization, with the vigorous development of our economy and the enhancement of national strength,it is the common aspiration of Chinese people to re-understand the value of Chinese traditional culture and to maintain and develop the uniqueness of Chinese culture. The traditional Chinese musical instruments represented by Guqin,a seven-stringed plucked instrument in some ways similar to the zither, are loved by more and more Chinese people. The contemporary concert hall as a professional playing and viewing space occupies a leading position in China's music life, and it is the main place for traditional musical instruments to entertain the masses. However, the contemporary music hall of our country is not derived from the development of the traditional music and art of our nation, but is directly transplanted from the West.Ever since Western Music Hall was introduced into our country,we always lack the initiative to change the space as according to the needs of our traditional music art,but instead we tend to transform China's traditional music art and traditional instruments to adapt to western music hall.Today,Chinese music professionals start to re-understand the value of traditional musical instruments, realizing the effects of modern theatrical environment on the development of traditional instruments. On the other hand,Environmental and Architectural Acoustics has witnessed enormous research on the sound characteristics of Chinese traditional musical instruments and the subjective optimization of objective acoustical parameters of the Concert Hall for Chinese folk music, laying the foundation for the study of the sound quality of the Chinese Music Hall. Therefore, studies of the continuous inheritance of traditional musical instruments in both the contemporary view space and the traditional view space have become an epochal proposition. The art of Guqin, which has a history of more than three thousand years,is one of China's original elastic stringed instruments and one of the oldest stringed instrumentsin the world.Taking the Guqin art, which is the most typical representation of traditional Chinese music culture,as an example,we discuss the existing problems of our traditional musical instruments in modern concert hall, and the way for sustainable development of traditional musical instruments in the contemporary era.The paper mainly adopts the basic research methods of investigating, analyzing and solving problems.Through the China traditional outlook on music which emphasizes the close relativeness among space characteristics, the music and the environment, combined with music anthropology, phenomenology, soundscape and intangible cultural heritage protection theory,we put forward design ideas and methods for performance space of contemporary Chinese traditional musical instruments,.First of all,the paper studies the development track and spatial characteristics of Chinese traditional view space, the development of the space of the western professional concert hall and its spatial characteristics. We conducted field survey of traditional Chinese musical instruments in the space of the Western concert hall. The problem of traditional Chinese musical instruments in the western viewing space has been analyzed in three respective aspects: the difference of musical cultural context formed by the comprehensive difference between Chinese and Western cultures, the difference between the acoustic environment and the aesthetic characteristics of musical instruments, the influence of modern western music hall space on the development of traditional musical instruments.Secondly,we take the art of Guqin, which is most representative of traditional Chinese musical culture as an example and we put much effort on proving the prominent position of the art of Guqin in Chinese traditional culture and the characteristics of the Chinese traditional music and the humanistic spirit, which provides us with,on the one hand,a new understanding of the inseparable relationship between music and the environment in the traditional Chinese music view, and on the other hand, the research foundation for constructing the traditional musical instrument playing space that not only keeps Chinese traditional theatrical space characteristics, but also meets the needs of modern society and accords with contemporary habits of watching and acting. We did all these through the study of the traditional cultural features of the art of Guqin, the characteristics of music, the space form of the traditional playing and viewing space and the contemporary space for Guqin pavilion. Finally,we explore the design elements of the viewing space of contemporary Guqin and carry out some design experiments and computer simulation of indoor sound field based on the following four factors: the courtyard disposition space for Guqin playing and viewing, the acoustical characteristics of the auditorium of the Guqin, the space layout of the interior view and the interior decoration, trying to explore the modern inheritance of the playing and viewing space of Chinese traditionalmusical instruments from two attributes of the cultural atmosphere and the acoustic physical function of the theatrical space.
