While the economic globalization continues to expand,China’s status in international trade has been rapidly improved, and the dividends and gains brought by international trade have gradually emerged. As a major province of economic and trade development in China,Jiangsu, how to promote economic growth under the open economy has become an important issue, and this is also the core issue of this paper. From the perspective of product diversity, this paper analyzes the impact of the diversity of manufacturing imports in Jiangsu Province on total factor productivity.Firstly, this paper combs and summarizes the classic theories and literatures related to product diversity and total factor productivity.Secondly, from the two aspects of model derivation(Feenstra,1994)and theoretical mechanism, the paper concludes that the diversity of imported products can pass the technology spillover effect.Mechanisms such as competitive effects and direct productivity effects to promote the improvement of total factor productivity in the industry. Finally,by establishing a multiple linear regression model, five indicators of capital concentration,R&D density, industry size, foreign direct investment and import penetration rate are introduced as the control variables of this study, and the total sample is different according to the trade method and the country of import. It is divided into four categories: general trade, processing trade, developed countries and non-developed countries for comparative analysis.By combining various analytical methods, this paper draws the following conclusions: The diversification of imported products in Jiangsu Province promotes the improvement of total factor productivity in the manufacturing industry, but the performance of different industries is different. The diversity of imported products in technology-intensive industries promotes the total factor productivity of the industry. The increase, but the product diversity of labor-intensive and capital-intensive industries has hindered the improvement of total factor productivity.Under the sub-sample regression, the diversity of imported products under the general trade mode hinders the improvement of total factor productivity.Only labor-intensive industries in the sub-sectors have a promoting effect, while the processing trade mode is reversed. Finally, whether it is from developed countries or the increase in the types of imported products in non-developed countries has promoted the improvement of total factor productivity. In the sub-sectors,only labor-intensive industries are hindering, and capital-intensive industries and technology-intensive industries are promoting, and this promotion It is stronger in the sample of developed countries.
