Research On The Impact Of Farmers’ Participation In Tourism Development On Sustainable Livelihoods In Suburban Rural Tourism Destinations

The rural revitalization strategy clearly proposes to give full play to the main role of farmers in rural revitalization,which points out the direction for attaching importance to the participation of farmers in the revitalization of rural industries in China.Rural tourism has become a new force and main force in the development of rural industries with its strong market absorption capacity,effective ways of poverty alleviation,and industry linkage.Farmers are the basic unit of rural tourism development and core stakeholders.Farmers’ participation plays a vital role in the development of rural tourism and directly affects their sustainable livelihood development.Therefore,the impact of farmers’ participation in rural tourism development on livelihoods become a hot topic in the revitalization of rural industries.Throughout China’s rural tourism development practice,the main role of farmers’ participation is not enough,and the research on the impact of farmers’ participation in China’s rural tourism research is not deep enough.What are the main aspects of farmers’ participation? How does the participation of farmers affect the livelihood of farmers? How should farmers adopt strategies torespond? These are the problems that need to be discussed and solved urgently in the development of rural tourism in the new period.In view of this,this study selects Xunlonghe Ecological Art Town,Guangming Village,Xifu Village,Jinggang Ancient Town,Guanshan Community and other suburban rural tourism destinations as case study sites,based on sustainable livelihood theory and based on structural equation models Quantitative analysis of the path and mechanism of farmers’ participation in rural tourism development on their livelihoods.The research conclusions are as follows:(1)Farmer household participation behavior is mainly affected by factors such as the length of farmer participation,number of participants,participation methods,participation capacity,participation information,and other factors;(2)Farmers’ participation ability and participation information explain the farmer’s participation behavior to a large extent.The length of participation,the number of participants,and the way of participation explain the farmer’s participation behavior in general;(3)Farmers’ participation behaviors to farmers’ material capital(0.472),financial capital(0.507),social capital(0.455),human capital(0.508),livelihoodStrategy(0.178)has a significant positive impact;(4)The physical capital of farmers(0.261),financial capital(0.112),and social capital(0.434)have a significant positive impact on farmers ’livelihood strategies,while human capital has a positive impact on livelihood strategies.There is a significant negative effect(-0.165).Based on the research conclusions and field investigations,this paper proposes improvement measures to provide empirical and theoretical basis for enhancing the sustainability of farmers’ livelihoods,promoting the sustainable development of rural tourism,and implementing the strategic objectives of rural revitalization.
