Inventory management has been the core of supply chain management along with the thought of supply chain gradually goes through each enterprise.Efficient inventory management becomes the key to the modern enterprise operations.Material management is the main function of inventory management including classification,storage and consumption according to different goods.Whether to optimize the location and project of the storage directly affects the efficiency of the entire warehouse even the competitiveness and profitability of the enterprise.The core goal of inventory management is to improve the operation efficiency and reduce the operation cost.The purpose of this paper is to study how to improve warehouse management level to achieve this goal.This paper introduces the status of inventory management technology at home and abroad from the background and significance of inventory management technology by ordering relevant literature as well as the application theory of inventory management technology.Chongqing ZC Company is taken as an example to analyze the problems of inventory management operations with the methods of sampling analysis,case analysis,visiting and communicating,find the factors that influence the operational efficiency,put forward the solutions of warehouse layout improvement,process optimization and field management,then apply to the warehouse daily work and management practice.The research shows that :(1)there are some problems in the warehouse of ZC Company,such as disorder placement of goods,unclear job responsibilities of the staff,uncoordinated working process,long and complex walking path in the picking process and waste of warehouse space.(2)The main reasons for the problems are: unreasonable warehouse area setting,imperfect working process and the lack of 5S management.(3)In terms of the warehouse area setting,the layout should be replanned to make maximum use of working areas and storage areas.In terms of the workflow,optimize the process of IM-warehouse packaging,parts putaway,EX-warehouse picking,EX-warehouse packaging and so on.Then the responsibilities of packaging staff,new layout of packaging areas will be set according to the optimization.5s management system should be implemented in field management of warehouses.Efficiency of ZC Company has been effectively improved by recording the time and distance of three batches of the same parts between IM-warehouse and EX-warehouse,calculating activation and working speed and achieving efficiency improvement methods.
