How Core Companies Can Benefit From Knowledge Spillovers

In the context of global market competition,the competition for innovation capabilities has long been transformed from competition among enterprises to competition between clusters.In order to achieve higher innovation performance,enterprises can combine the technological advantages of core enterprises with the flexibility advantages of other SMEs through cluster innovation,and share the progress of innovation through frequent interactions.In this context,cluster innovation will make core enterprises with leading technologies inevitably spill over knowledge into other enterprises in the cluster,and the problem the core enterprises facing is that the core enterprises are willing to overflow part of its knowledge to their partners in order to enhance the effect of cluster innovation,in the same time,core enterprises also worried that the opportunistic behavior of their partners leads to major technology leaks,thus infringing on their own competitive advantages.Therefore,whether it can handle the dilemma of knowledge spillover is the key to the core enterprises to effectively carry out cluster cooperation.Especially in the case that the intellectual property protection system is still not perfect,it is a key and difficult issue for core enterprises to solve the problem of knowledge spillover by designing an effective cooperation mechanism.This paper selects the Toyota supplier group as the case study object,uses the single case study,analyzes the case data by using the classical rooted theory research procedure and method,and summarizes the category logic relationship model from the case.Then this study combines relevant theories and theoretically encodes on the basis of the category logic relationship model to obtain the theoretical model of this paper.The study found that:(1)There is a circulation promoting effect between cluster learning,relational capital and cluster innovation performance;(2)The dynamic role of Early distribution of innovation income and the non-market mechanism is conducive to the circulation promoting effect of cluster learning,relational capital and cluster innovation performance;(3)Core enterprises can trigger the large loops and small loops of cluster innovation through knowledge spillovers,and promote the loops of cluster innovation through the dynamic role of early distribution of innovation income and non-market mechanisms,and continuously improve the innovation performance of the entire cluster,thereby benefiting from knowledge spillovers.This paper draws a single case study of the Toyota supplier cluster to derive the mechanism of the core enterprises benefit from knowledge spillover.The conclusions of this paper have certain reference significance for core enterprises to participate in cluster innovation.First,the core enterprises should use their control ability to carry out cluster knowledge management and cluster relationship management in the cluster,actively promote the knowledge spillover within the cluster,and develop the close relationship among theenterprises within the cluster,thereby reducing the possibility of enterprises in the cluster to engage in opportunistic behavior.In this way,enterprises within the cluster are encouraged to actively participate in cluster innovation.Secondly,the core enterprises can improve the construction speed of relational capital within the cluster through the two mechanisms of ’early distribution of innovation income’ and ’non-market mechanism’ proposed in this paper,and accelerate the circulation promoting effect of cluster learning,relational capital and cluster innovation performance.Finally,when promoting the development of local industrial clusters,the government can also properly draw on the ideas provided by this research,act as the leading role of core enterprises in the cluster,conduct cluster knowledge management and cluster relationship management within industrial clusters,and promote the rapid development of local industrial clusters.
