Study On The International Competitiveness Of Vietnam's Wood And Wood Products Exports

Vietnam's accession to the World Trade Organization(WTO)in 2007 has brought tremendous impetus to Vietnam's economic development.Especially with the signing of free trade agreements with other countries,Vietnam's export trade grew rapidly and made great contributions to the growth of national GDP.The world timber and wood products trade situation has also undergone tremendous changes.As one of Vietnam's traditional export industries,timber and wood products industry plays an important role in Vietnam's economic development.Vietnam's export volume of timber and wood products is increasing.Vietnam exports timber and wood products to many countries in the world.Vietnam is playing an important role in the international market.The export volume of wood and wood products in Vietnam is increasing year by year.However,with the accession of other countries,Vietnam's export of wood and wood products is also facing many difficulties.Firstly,in the face of the shrinking market for raw materials,many types of timber are becoming increasingly scarce and international competition is expanding.Secondly,people are increasingly demanding for the quality of timber and wood products.However,the machines,technologies and industrial chains used in Vietnam at this stage can not meet people's requirements for the quality of wood products.Finally,some of the world's larger timber production.Technical barriers have been established in the market,especially strict standards for the legal sources and origins of logs used in the production of wood commodities.Judging from the forecast,in the future,the market competition for timber raw material supply will be more intense,and the prices of timber and wood products will also rise,which will lead to higher prices of timber and wood products in Vietnam.Vietnam's timber and wood products exports face multiple challenges.Based on this,this paper takes "Vietnamese Wood and Wood Products Industry" as the research object,and uses the dominant comparative advantage index(RCA),competitiveness index(TC)and gravity model to analyze the competitive advantages and disadvantages of Vietnamese wood and wood products industry.The results show that:(1)Vietnam has significant comparative advantages and international competitiveness in timber and wood products;(2)different types of timber have different indices,which are quite different;(3)factors affecting Vietnam's timber and wood products exports are: Vietnam's domestic GDP level,importing country's GDP level,Vietnam's economic gap with importing countries,geographical distance,tariffs and sinks.Rate,the first three items have a positive impact on Vietnam's timber and wood products exports,while the last three items have a negative impact;(4)Based on the above analysis results,the paper puts forward targeted suggestions for the development of Vietnam's timber and wood products industry,such as actively developing its own economy,daring to open up potential markets,focusing on domestic technological innovation,and actively responding to trade barriers.
