At present, the aging of the population and the aging of our country lead to the increasing risk of rural old-age support. At the same time, affected by family planning policy and population mobility in urban and rural areas, the way of rural old-age support relying on children and families is difficult to sustain. In order to alleviate the severe risk of providing for the aged in rural areas and the pressure of family providing for the aged, our government began to pilot the implementation of the new rural insurance system in some rural areas in 2009.After the system merger, the new rural insurance system eventually evolved into the old-age insurance system for urban and rural residents(referred to as urban and rural housing insurance)and became an important system design for the government to improve the level of the old-age security for farmers.Up to now,the urban and rural housing insurance system has lasted for nearly ten years in rural areas of China, which has had a great impact on the rural old-age pension model. The principle of "voluntary participation" is adopted in the implementation of urban and rural housing insurance, but the insufficient willingness of young and middle-aged farmers to continue to participate in insurance has become an important obstacle to the sustainable development of the system.Young and middle-aged farmers as the main force of urban and rural housing insurance system in the future, their long-term participation will and sustainable participation behavior determine the level of security and sustainable development of the system. The willingness of young and middle-aged peasants to participate in the old-age insurance system for urban and rural residents determines the future ability of the system and the sustainable development of the system. This paper constructs a multi-intermediary model in which social capital influences the willingness of young and middle-aged peasants to participate in urban and rural housing insurance system through system satisfaction and special trust.Based on 678 questionnaires of young and middle-aged peasants from five provinces in China in 2015,this paper uses structural equation model to study the willingness to continue to participate in insurance as dependent variable, social capital as independent variable, system satisfaction and special trust as intermediary variable. It is found that social capital has no significant direct impact on the willingness of young and middle-aged farmers to participate in insurance;social capital has indirect impact on the willingness to participate in insurance through system satisfaction and special trust.Based on Bootstrap re-sampling technology,we find that there are significant differences between the mediation effect of system satisfaction and the common mediation effect of system satisfaction, special trust and both. There is no significant difference between the mediation effect of system satisfaction and special trust, special trust and common mediation effect. From the research results, social capital has little direct impact on the willingness of young and middle-aged peasants to participate in the urban and rural housing insurance system, but it indirectly improves the willingness to participate in the insurance system by improving the system satisfaction and special trust. In addition,it increases the system satisfaction by increasing the special trust, and then has indirect positive impact on the willingness to participate in the insurance system. This requires us to meet the information exchange needs of young and middle-aged peasants and strengthen the perceived value of the system to improve the willingness of young peasants to participate in insurance, and to promote the better development of urban and rural housing security system and its security role to play the most important role.In addition, from the demographic characteristics, marital status, age, educational background and family income have a significant impact on the willingness of young and middle-aged farmers to participate in insurance. Therefore, the government should pay special attention to the impact of demographic characteristics when adjusting the implementation of relevant policies.
