With the rapid development of China's economy and the continuous relaxation of household registration management system, more and more rural labor force moves to cities and towns, which not only accelerates the process of urbanization and industrialization in China, but also has an impact on the consumption of rural residents.Combing through the existing domestic and foreign relevant literatures,it is found that most scholars take rural labor migration and resident consumption as two fields to study respectively, and introduce little about the transmission mechanism between them. Therefore,it is of great significance to study the influence of rural labor migration on rural residents' consumption and find the rules,so as to reasonably guide the rural labor migration to the city and expand the consumption of rural residents. The research idea of this paper is "theory and literature review--mechanism analysis--current situation analysis--empirical test--policy and Suggestions".Firstly, the paper reviews the relevant studies on labor migration and household consumption.Secondly,it analyzes how the labor migration affect the consumption of rural residents.Thirdly it introduces the current situation of rural labor migration and rural residents' consumption. Then, based on the panel data of provinces in China, this paper divided the eastern, central and western sample regions, and tested the impact of rural labor force migration on the consumption level of rural residents from an empirical perspective. Then,it used micro data and ELES model to test the impact of labor force migration on the consumption structure of rural residents. Finally, based on the results of empirical analysis, the article puts forward targeted suggestions on how to promote the free migration of rural labor in China and expand the consumption of rural residents. This paper adopts the research method of combining macro and micro data. The macro data is based on the statistics of 29 provinces and cities(excluding Xizang and Chongqing)published by the National Bureau of Statistics from 1998 to 2017.The micro data is adopted by CHFS(2015).The empirical analysis results show: in the east and the central region, the rural labor migration promoted the local rural residents' consumption level of ascension, and in the western region the migration of rural labor force has inhibitory effect to the level of consumption; The migration of rural labor force has a significant impact on the consumption structure of rural residents, and the larger the number of migration, the greater the impact on the consumption expenditure of culture, education and entertainment, indicating that with the migration of rural labor force, the consumption structure of rural residents has been constantly optimized.
