Chester Barnard is known as the "father of modern management theory".He is a management scholar at the intersection of the era of scientific management and the era of humanistic management. His organizational theory combines scientism with humanism and achieves good results. Therefore,Barnard's organizational theory has the dual characteristics of scientism and humanism, and put forward some innovations at that time. The new viewpoint, especially his systematic thought and humanism thought, has a far-reaching impact on later generations and has prominent research value.Based on this, from the philosophical perspective, starting from the two routes of scientism and humanism, this paper re-combs the logical thinking of Barnard's organizational theory construction, and deeply excavates the philosophical nature of the organizational theory part of his management thought.Barnard's organizational theory is based on the world outlook of system theory, which abstractly restores the whole process of organizational construction.Following the logical main line from individual to collaborative behavior and finally to organization, the process and basic elements of organizational construction are analyzed and discussed, and the related theories of organizational stability and development are farther put forward. In this process, the scientific characteristics of Barnard's organizational theory are very obvious. However,in the following management ethics principles and management methodology, the characteristics of humanism are gradually highlighted.Throughout the history of management, neither pure scientism nor humanism can achieve long-term success in management.Barnard's behavior of combining scientism and humanism has important enlightenment significance for the construction of modern administrative theory system.
