A Simple Comment On Scientific Humanism

Science is not only the center of human civilization but also a necessary means to the development of human society, which brings lots of surprises to the human life and development, dating from germination form in primitive society to the role of "the first productive force" in 21st century. However, science acts as the vanguard of human civilization but also is likely to become the devil to destroy human civilization. Crisis destroying human survival such as environmental pollution and lack of resources gradually emerges.In the 1930s, the reality of society ruled by instrumental rationality, scientific culture and humanistic culture generated intense conflicts. In order to mitigate the tense opposition, especially for changing an urgent situation that science was increasing dissimilated, the western scholar George Sarton proposed a new ideal to establish New Humanism (Scientific Humanism) .The Scientific Humanism is based on science , emphasizes humanistic value and takes the realization of scientific humanization as its main objective. After the proposition of "two cultures " made by British scholar C. P. Snow, Scientific Humanism was gradually concerned by scientists and humanities scholars, and then the relationship of science and humanities became an important topic of research in scientific philosophy. More scholars hold an attitude towards the fusion of science and humanities.Sarton holds that the Science History is a unique and correct ways of contacting science and humanities. Besides Sarton, more scholars put forward theoretic basis for the fusion of science and humanities, such as Merton, the American sociologist of science and British famous physical chemist and philosopher Polanyi, and so on. Merton expounded more places that communicate of science and humanities form Puritanism influence on science and temperament of scientific spirit. Polanyi used the operation mechanism of Tacit Epistemology——In Dwelling and found a possibility for science and humanities. According to research more scholars' thought, we discovered science and humanities have no opposition essentially. Science and humanities not only have the theoretical support of fusion, but also have current demand for the ove all development of man and society. In how realize the fusion of science and humanities, we think that the mutual penetration,mutual complement and mutual transformation for its method,the spirit,values,reason and knowledge have been showed new direction for the development and deepening of Scientific Humanism.Today, the voice of integration between science and humanities has become the mainstream in the intellectual field both in China and Western countries, and gradually from the intellectual field to the daily life. In the 21st century, people enjoy the great achievements from the scientific development, but still could not get rid of the negative effects of science. Faced with this reality, science and humanism has not only been studied in theoretical level but also manifestoes the importance of its existence and implementation. After all, science and humanism is a significant issue relating with human survival and development.
