Analysis On The Development Of China-Pakistan Trade Under The "Belt And Road" Initiative

In 2013,General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed the construction of the “New Silk Road Economic Belt” and the “Maritime Silk Road Economic Belt”,which is committed to promoting the economic development of China and the cooperating countries and creating a mutually beneficial and win-win “community of interest”.In the same year,Premier Li Keqiang paid a visit to Pakistan and proposed the construction of the "China-Pakistan Economic Corridor." The "China-Pakistan Economic Corridor" is an important project of the "One Belt,One Road" initiative.The two countries proposed to strengthen cooperation in energy,port,transportation infrastructure and the relating industries to jointly promote the two countries' economy and trade.In recent years,China-Pakistan trade has been close and the scale of trade has continued to expand.At the same time,the " Belt and Road " initiative has also provided a new opportunity for the development of China-Pakistan trade.This article has six parts.The first part is an introduction,which clarifies the significance and role of China-Pakistan trade development under the “Belt and Road” initiative,and combs and summarizes the views of other scholars.The second part introduces the progress of the “Belt and Road” Initiative and the progress of the “China-Pakistan Economic Corridor”.Then,it clarifies the important position of the “China-Pakistan Economic Corridor” in the “Belt and Road” project.The third part of this paper analyzes the trade scale between China and Pakistan,and shows the growth trend of China-Pakistan trade volume and the proportion of China-Pakistan trade imports to their respective trades through charts and other means.It also analyzes the structure of China-Pakistan merchandise trade to clarifiy the main commodities exported from China to Pakistan and the main commodity categories imported.The third part also calculates and analyzes China-Pakistan trade integration degree,dominant comparative advantage index and trade complementarity index.It is found that China and Pakistan have a high degree of trade integration and trade complementarity.The fourth part of the paper firstly analyzes the current situation of China-Pakistan trade through the third part,and finds that China and Pakistan have problems such as trade scale and structural imbalance.Then it analyzes the causes of the problems and finds that the economic and technological development level of the two countries,the industrial level of Pakistan and the security of the trade environment will all affect the development of China-Pakistan trade.The fifth part of this article is about the suggestion of China-Pakistan trade development under the “Belt and Road Initiative” initiative.Strengthening the importation from Pakistan,optimizing the bilateral industrial structure and promoting the construction of the "China-Pakistan Economic Corridor" will promote the cooperation and development of China-Pakistan trade.The last part of the article is a summary of the full text.
