The Effect Of Knowledge Power On Dualistic Innovation

Technological innovation has become an important mode for enterprises to get competitive advantages.More and more enterprises take technological innovation as a key strategy to drive enterprise development.Explorative innovation and exploitative innovation are two different kinds of technological innovation.Explorative innovation is characterized by the exchange and integration of diversified and heterogeneous knowledge to develop new concepts,new methods and new products.Exploitative innovation is characterized by extending existing product lines or improving existing product designs.Explorative innovation enables enterprises to pursue new possibilities,which is a radical innovation behavior in a large scale and affects long-term performance of enterprises.However,Exploitative innovation is a gradual innovation behavior in a small range to make enterprises improve for the current situation.The existing theories and empirical studies on dualistic innovation are mainly start from two aspects:one is the balance and coordination between exploratory innovation and exploitative innovation,the other is the influencing factors of dualistic innovation.The existing studies have the following limitations:first,the existing studies focus too much on the balance between the explorative innovation and the exploitative innovation,and ignore the essence of duality.The research on dualistic innovation should focus on which factors will lead enterprises to choose the type of innovation when they make innovations,in another word,dualistic innovation should emphasize enterprises to pursue higher level exploration innovation and exploitative innovation at the same time,rather than find a balance between the two kind of innovation.Second,too much attention is paid to the role of knowledge resource stock and knowledge acquisition ability,but little research has been done on the impact of power brought by knowledge resource.Third,lack of attention to dynamic situations.This paper introduces the "knowledge-power" theory into the dualistic innovation research,adopts the empirical research method,and analyzes the two dimensions of "knowledge power"-"power of discourse" and "right of discipline",and the influence on the enterprise dualistic innovation.The moderating effect of environmental dynamics on the relationship between knowledge power and binary innovation is further demonstrated.From 2012 to 2016,data of 531 listed companies in three types of enterprises including electrical engineering,mechanical manufacturing and information technology were analyzed,and the results showed that enterprises with strong knowledge power had higher levels of exploratory innovation and exploitative innovation.Environmental dynamics significant negatively moderate the relationship between knowledge power and explorative innovation.And positively moderate the relationship between knowledge power and exploitative innovation.The theoretical and practical value of this paper is mainly reflected in:first,it shows the importance of "knowledge-power" theory in the study of enterprise dualistic innovation,and points out the limitations of knowledge base theory in explaining the occurrence process of enterprise" dualistic innovation".Second,the empirical study of knowledge power’s impact on dualistic innovation,and investigate the typical industry laws;Third,it demonstrates the necessity of investigating the "knowledge-based power" theory in the dynamic environment context,and obtains a more pioneering and detailed description of the influence of knowledge power on dualistic innovation.
