Insufficient consumption is one of the long-standing problems in China's economic development.Rural residents' consumption is an important component of China's household consumption expenditure.Compared with urban residents' consumption, rural residents' consumption expenditure has been insufficient and has ample room for improvement.Raising rural residents' consumption expenditures and allowing rural residents to “dare to consume”,“willing to consume”,and “can consume” are effective measures to solve the dilemma of domestic demand.Research on increasing rural household consumer spending and introducing policies and measures to expand rural household consumption expenditure cannot leave the institutional and institutional background of the dual urban-rural structure in China, and cannot ignore the fact that a large number of laborers are moving from rural areas to urban areas. With regard to the impact of labor mobility on rural residents' consumer expenditure, there are few domestic and foreign literature studies, especially on the issue of labor mobility in rural China, which is rare, and more literature is discussing labor Factors affecting mobility, motivation, and factors that affect rural residents' consumer spending. In the literature devoted to the analysis of China's labor mobility and rural residents' consumption expenditure,an important issue has generally been overlooked. That is,labor mobility and other decisions of rural households, such as consumption and income, have endogenous problems.Labor mobility can increase rural residents' consumption expenditures. At the same time, rural households with low consumption expenditures need to increase their income through labor mobility to cope with consumer spending. Therefore,it is impossible to effectively solve the endogenous problem of labor flow and it is impossible to obtain credible regression conclusions. To this end,the article starts with the western consumer theory, combines the income-consumption theory and the absolute income hypothesis, introduces labor mobility factors, constructs a general framework for labor mobility and rural household consumer expenditure, and empirically studies both macro and micro levels. At the macro level,on the basis of an analysis of the labor mobility, consumption expenditures of rural residents and consumer expenditures of different categories of goods and services during 1987-2016,it was found that there is a “U”-shaped curve relationship between labor mobility and rural household consumption expenditure, and a broad application The least-squares method(FGLS)estimates the impact of labor mobility on rural residents' consumer spending and different categories of consumer spending. The regression results show that the generalized least square method can effectively solve the first-order autocorrelation and variable endogenous problems. At the same time, the empirical regression results show that China's labor mobility has a “U”-shaped curve relationship with rural residents' consumer spending, and the curve inflection point is 7447.47,that is,when the number of labor flows in China is more than 74,447,700,the labor mobility will significantly promote the per capita consumption expenditure of rural residents.China's labor mobility has a “U”-shaped curve for consumption of household goods and services. The turning point of the curve is 8987.29,that is,when the number of China's labor flows exceeds 8,889,900,the flow of labor will significantly increase the supply of household goods for rural residents. At the micro level, based on the data of 5834 rural households in 2014 conducted by the China Family Follow-up Survey(CFPS),the probit model tool-variable approach was used to estimate the impact of labor mobility on rural residents' overall consumption expenditure and the impact on rural residents' different categories of consumer spending, and the impact of labor mobility in the three regions of the East,West,Middle East on the consumption expenditure of rural residents. The regression results confirm that the impact of labor mobility on rural residents' consumption expenditure presents a “U”-shaped curve, and the turning point of the curve is 1.91,that is,when the number of rural households with more than 1.91 labor flows,it will significantly promote per capita consumption expenditure; The impact of labor mobility in the central and western regions on the per capita consumption expenditure of rural residents is also “U” curve. The inflection points of the curves are 1.41,2.08,and 3.17,respectively,that is,the number of rural household labor flows in the eastern, central, and western regions is 1.41.,2.08 and 3.17 or more, will significantly increase the per capita expenditure on consumption;and on the impact of labor mobility on the consumption of different types of commodities, labor mobility on food and tobacco, clothing, transportation and communications, education, culture and entertainment, other supplies and services.Consumer expenditures show an inverted "U" curve relationship, and they show a "U-shaped" curve for consumer spending on living, daily necessities, services, and health care.At the same time, the empirical regression results also found that the "ratchet effect" of rural residents' consumption is not significant, and the previous consumption habits will not significantly affect current consumer expenditures, but rural residents' consumption is significantly affected by the "demonstrative effect" of urban residents' consumption. The impact of rural residents' income on consumer spending is not a simple linear relationship, but "U" curve relationship. The spending of financial expenditures in the agricultural sector has significantly “crowded in” rural household consumption expenditures, and pensions and medical insurance have significantly negatively affected the per capita consumption expenditure of rural residents. The rate of social security participation has positively affected the per capita consumption expenditure. So this article suggest that speed up the process of urbanization, encourage the transfer of rural laborers to cities and towns, and effectively increase rural residents' property income, operating income, and transfer income through multiple channels, further increase financial support for agriculture, and support the agricultural industry to accelerate The transformation and upgrading will further improve the social security system and solve the “worry for the future” of rural residents' consumption expenditure. At the same time, improve the rural consumer network, increase the supply of high-end and high-quality goods to meet the diverse needs of rural residents.
