| Driven by the international division of labor, which is dominated by the division of labor within the product, the global production network led by multinational corporations connecting different regions of the world has been accelerated and developed.Southeast Asia is an important part of the global production network. It not only serves as an impetus for the early development of ASEAN,but also becomes an important economic pillar for ASEAN countries. With the development of the division of labor within the product, the global production network is also in a state of development and change. The characteristics of ASEAN’s participation in the global production network and the division of labor among them have important implications for China in the East Asian production network. From the theoretical and empirical point of view, this paper studies the course and characteristics of ASEAN’s participation in the global production network and its position in the division of value chain. In addition,it compares the competitiveness of China and ASEAN in manufacturing exports at the end of the paper.By studying the course and current characteristics of ASEAN’s participation in the global production network,we can understand that participating in the global production network has a significant role in promoting ASEAN’s foreign trade and economic growth. At present,ASEAN develops in depth in the global production network, which includes not only the expansion of the industries and scale involved, but also the changes in the production network among them. However, for ASEAN,excessive foreign reliance still exists in the process of participating in the global production network. The empirical analysis of this paper also confirms the above conclusions. The data of traditional import and export trade reflects the import and export structure of ASEAN and the compe titiveness of corresponding industries. The results show that although ASEAN a ctively participates in the global production network, its main competitiveness is still concentrated in labor-intensive.Type and resource-intensive industries. In addition,ASEAN’s high-value chain participation index and low-value chain status index also reflect ASEAN’s low division of labor in the global value chain.By comparing the export proportions of China’s and ASEAN’s manufacturing industries at various levels,we can see that the export technology structure has gradually converged, and both the product structure and the market structure of the manufacturing exports of the two sides are highly similar. The two sides will face greater competition in the high-tech manufacturing represented by the electronics industry and the medium and high-tech manufacturing represented by the textile industry. From the competition index,China is more competitive on exports. |
