The Change Of Successor's Authority And Strategy Change In Family Business

The effect of family business is getting more and more important in modern society,and the issue of successors' intergenerational transition is also attaching more and more attention.Among them,the successors' authority is the key issue to some extent.On the other and,Strategy has always been an important factor for the company,So this article is going to study some something about the successors'authority and the strategy Change in family business.This article use the empirical method to analyze the effect of successors'authority Change on the strategy Change in the family business.We choose the listed companies between 2003 and 2012 as our sample.In the same time,on the basis of theory of authority and motivation,we put forward two opposite hypothesizes from two point of views of Resistance and power.The first is that:The more authority the successor has,the less resistance for the strategy Change,more Change for the strategy;The second is that:The more authority the successor has,the less motivation for the successor to proceed the strategy Change,the less Change for the strategy Change.And through Regression analysis,we got the conclusion:when the successor of the family business entered the company,he had little authority,an often he was eager to prove himself,then he got enough motivation to promote the strategy Change so that he could get the others' recognition.So the hypothesis based on the motivation theory was supported:the more authority he has,the little motivation he has,the less strategy Change in the company.The contribution of this article is that we examine the relation between the Changes of the successor' authority and the strategy in family business,expand the relevant research about the Intergenerational inheritance,And at the same time offer help to the relevant issues about authority and strategy Change.
