Visual Quality Evaluation Of Rural Landscape Based On Eye Movement

Rural Landscape Assessment is the basic of landscape resources rational development,utilization,protection and landscape planning.the methods of Rural Landscape Assessment have their own advantages,but also show a lot of deficiencies.So this study will introduce eye movement to rural landscape visual quality assessment and take the World Heritage Hongcun as a case study.Eye tracker records eye movement data while subjects watching the picture of rural landscape.questionnaires can attain subjective evaluation of rural landscape.This study try to explore eye Movements and visual quality evaluation of rural landscape,and the relationship between them.We found through experiments,the following conclusions:(1)Factors of affecting visual quality.Harmony,orderliness,amenity impact overall visual quality of rural landscape.In rural settlements landscape,rural ecological landscape,rural agricultural landscape,the most influential factors of the visual quality are uniqueness、vividness、harmony.(2)different types of landscape have the different characteristics.Settlement landscape has the advantage in harmony,orderliness,cultural,amenity.Ecological landscape and agricultural landscape have outstanding features of naturalness and variety.In the Cultural landscape uniqueness and culture are better.In addition,compared with the other three landscape,agricultural landscape is at a disadvantage in the visual quality.(3)different demographic characteristics differ in eye movement behavior of rural landscape.Women are wider than men in visual range and are more interested in the rural landscape.Fixation duration average of the males is significantly higher than its of females.the urban population is higher than the rural population On fixation frequency,but the rural proportion have more proportion of fixation duration and fixation duration average and they can obtain more image information.(4)different types of rural landscape have different eye movement behavior.In the four categories of landscape,settlement landscape have higher fixation frequency but the shortest time in fixation duration average;ecological landscape has the highest fixation frequency;saccade velocity average of agricultural landscape is slightly larger than other landscape;cultural landscape has the lowest fixation frequency,the highest fixation duration average,but its saccade frequency is minimal.(5)different landscape types have different eye movement trajectory.Visual range of settlement landscape is relatively concentrated,the fixation point focused on building landscape sketches.Ecological landscape have wider visual range than agricultural landscape but their fixation points do not particularly focus on a certain landscape elements.Cultural landscape has the highest concentration of visual range fixations focused on calligraphy elements of carving and plaque.People,animals and other elements have very strong effect on visual appeal.subjects focus on these e ements.(6)Analysis of eye movement data and subjective evaluation score get the regression equation Y=7.224-1.511X1+0.258X2-0.189X3(where X1 is the proportion of fixation duration,X2 is the fixation frequency,X3 is saccade frequency).By the equation find smaller are he proportion of fixation duration and saccade frequency,the greater are fixation frequency,the quality evaluation of rural landscape is higher.
