| The modern university was born in the Middle Ages of Europe.With the emergence of universities,the corresponding college organization gradually appeared and it continued to improve with the development of universities.The four colleges of arts,law,theology and medicine at the University of Paris are recognized as the original model of the college.The development of the college in China are full of twists and turns.Before the adjustment of departments in 1952,the three-level management system of "school-college-department" had been established in China.After the adjustment of colleges and departments,the organizational system of colleges has been cancelled in China.With the arrival of a new round of department adjustment in the 1980 s,the college has returned to university and become the basic organizational unit generally used by universities.College setting has also become a hot issue for scholars in recent years.As a place to disseminate and research ‘advanced knowledge’,the university is also an academic organization based on the development of discipline knowledge.Disciplines influence the form selection and activity functions of academic organizations within universities.The college setting within the university should follow the logic and law of discipline development,and promote the development of discipline to the maximum extent.But in practice,the relationship between colleges and disciplines is more complex.For "what kind of relationship should be between colleges and disciplines",people have not formed the same cognition,so there will be various problems in educational management practice.This is not only detrimental to the development of colleges and disciplines,but also to the overall construction of universities.Based on the above situation,this study selects 323 universities with doctoral degree granting rights in China as research samples,trying to make a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of the current situation of the relationship between the university’s college setting and disciplines in China.First,by using historical methods,review the historical evolution of the relationship between college setting and disciplines from both foreign and domestic perspectives,and sum up the phase characteristics of each period.Secondly,through the detailed sorting and analysis of the collected materials and data on the college setting,this paper describes the current situation of the relationship between the university’s college setting and disciplines in China.It is mainly carried out from three aspects: the first aspect is to classify the colleges horizontally according to the standard of discipline categories,analyze the setting of the various-discipline colleges and interdisciplinary colleges.The second aspect is to classify 323 universities into three categories: the universities of first-class construction,the universities of first-class discipline construction and general universities,analyze and compare the college setting of various universities.The third aspect is to use the data to demonstrate the correlation between the number of colleges and the number of degree points.On this basis,the paper reveals the problems existing in the relationship between the university’s college setting and disciplines in our country deeply: an excess of colleges;the lack of standardization of colleges’ names;the low subject level of colleges;the unbalanced discipline structure of colleges.At the same time,analyze the causes of the existing problems.Finally,the paper reflect on the problems of the relationship between the university’s college setting and disciplines in our country,and puts forward some suggestions to improve the college setting of universities in our country from the perspective of discipline development: adhere to the basis of discipline and follow the development trend of the discipline;adhere to the combination of the standardization and the flexibility of the college setting;adhere to the unity of the internal logic of discipline development and the external logic of social development;adhere to the adaptation of the college setting and the development orientation of the university;adhere to the innovation of the academic organization. |
