Disciplines are not only the basic parts of a university,but also the basic units of teaching,scientific researching,talent training and social serving.The construction level of disciplines plays an important role in the overall development of universities and social progress.Under the national policy of constructing first-class universities and disciplines of the world,the construction of first-class disciplines has become the top priority in promoting the connotative development of universities and higher education reform.Pedagogy as one of the university disciplines,bears the heavy responsibility of educational theory researching and talent training.The development of pedagogy is related to the abilities of educational workers,related to the management and decision-making of schools,related to various educational policy making,related to the consultation and solution of theoretical and practical problems.It plays a vital role in educational career.However,the development process of pedagogy in China is bumpy.And its status is lower than other disciplines.It is exposed to series problems in the course of discipline construction.Harvard university is a typical world-class university.Its pedagogy has experienced a long history and accumulated valuable experiences.It ranks to the top of the United States among many discipline ranking systems.It represents the international top level of pedagogy.The thesis researches the pedagogy of Harvard University,analyzes its historical and current situation,expounds the constructional measures and experiences of pedagogy of many other famous universities.Then it summarizes the characteristics and path orientation of pedagogy in the United Stated.At last,the thesis provides some references and suggestions for the pedagogy construction in our China.This thesis is divided into four parts.The first part analyzes the key elements of pedagogy construction in American universities.The second part takes Harvard University as a case for in-depth study,combing the historical development and the current situation of pedagogy construction from the aspects of discipline orientationand mission,professional projects,courses,faculty and scientific research,and summarizing the characteristics of discipline construction.The third part summarizes the service orientation,practical orientation and interdisciplinary orientation of pedagogy construction in American universities.The fourth part proposed that the discipline construction of pedagogy in China should be promoted from both inside and outside,and summarizes some suggestions and enlightenment from six aspects according to our current problems and the experience of American universities.
