Engineering affects all aspects of human production and life,and its importance is becoming increasingly prominent.In recent years,the importance of education in engineering has been continuously improved in China,however the research in the basic education is often neglected.Primary education is the initial stage of students’engineering literacy training and development.The implementation of education at this stage will help students understand the engineering and get further development in the field of it.Based on STEM education,this study tries to develop a series of engineering projects suitable for the primary school students and implement them,then evaluates the teaching effects on the students’ understanding of engineering,their attitudes,capabilities and interest to the engineering.Research has found that STEM -based engineering education projects have effectively promoted the development of students’ understanding,attitude,ability and interest of the engineering.This thesis includes the following parts:In the first chapter,the background,significance of topic selection,related concepts,current research,research contents and methods are described,then the idea of building engineering projects is put forward.In chapter 2,this thesis analyzes STEM education characteristics and the idea of the project education based on STEM engineering,which is integration,practicality,iterative and systemic.On the basis of it,the paper expounds the research route and concrete measures of engineering education projects based on STEM.In the third chapter,the students’ understanding,attitude,capabilities and interest to the engineering are investigated and the questionnaire results are analyzed.The investigation has found that students are not well acquainted with engineering,weak engineering capabilities and less interested in engineering.Chapter 4 discusses the design and development of engineering project based on STEM.Chapter 5 elaborates the contents and typical cases of engineering education projects based on STEM engineering.In chapter 6,this thesis discusses the implementation effects of engineering education projects based on STEM and puts forward the implementation strategies.The seventh chapter summarizes the research.The research shows that integrating STEM education concept into engineering education can provide direction for the design and implementation of education projects,and enrich the content,target and teaching form of it.Based on the relationship between engineering education and STEM,this thesis puts forward design basis,principles and strategies of the engineering education projects.The basis includes the characteristics of engineering education,students’ knowledge,the sustainable development of students and conditions of schools.Also we should insist on comprehensive principles,basic principles,the principles of interest and practical principles.The strategy of group cooperation,timely strategy,appropriate strategy,systematic strategy and iterative improvement strategy are adopted.These strategies are effective in facilitating the implementation of the education projects based on STEM.
