STEM education can provide interdisciplinary knowledge for students and promote the cultivation of student ' s high-level skills,which has become an international trend.However,at the present stage of primary and secondary school in China,the STEM education is mainly spread by introducing foreign courses directly,lack in the process of curriculum localization.In addition,teachers has rare training opportunities in STEM mode,which makes most primary and secondary Chinese students have fewer chance to receive high-quality engineering education.In contrast,informal learning and Novel Engineering can always promote students to better learn STEM knowledge,reducing the burden on teachers and expanding the coverage of students.Based on it,this study has developed STEM software for Novel Engineering in the background of Robinson Crusoe,and has implemented and evaluated it.This study adopts the pre-test and post-test research method of quasi-experimental single group.A total of 72 students in two classes of the first grade of a junior middle school in Shanghai are taken as research objects.Data are collected and analyzed through STEM learning interest scales,flow status scales,interviews and students' STEM work scores.The research results show that students have a high evaluation of STEM software of novel engineering,and this STEM software is conducive to students' significant improvement in mathematics and 21 st century skill dimensions,and can enable students to have a lasting and higher flow experience.Finally,this study proposes suggestions from three aspects of STEM software design,implementation and evaluation respectively.
