An Analysis Of The Metaphorical Cognition And Cultural Connotation Of The Chinese "eating" Word Group

This paper adopts exhaustive collecting methods,on the basis of extensively collecting and sorting out the words,expressions,idioms,proverbs,folk wisecracks that are related to “eating” in Chinese,the corpus of corresponding terms has been described and expounded in accordance with classification.First of all,the senses of "eating" in monosyllabic terms that are included in many dictionaries are screened,in addition,under the categorization theory of cognitive linguistic and conceptual metaphor theory,the evolution of the meaning of "eating" in Chinese is analyzed.Secondly,by studying the semantic category of "eating" word group in Chinese,this paper aims to explore the metaphorical cognitive mechanism behind it.Finally,the cultural connotation and cultural root reflected in Chinese "eating" word group are discussed.Through combing relevant researches,it is determined that there are 16 senses of “eating” in Chinese,which solves the problem of incomplete inclusion existing in some of the dictionaries.Then,this paper studies the extension of every sense of "eating",which finds that the evolution mode of the meaning of Chinese "eating" belongs to comprehensive mode.In the framework of metaphorical cognitive theory,this paper divides the cognitive domain of "eating" word group metaphor into diet domain,behavior domain,psychology domain,knowledge and thinking domain,life domain,humanity domain and so on.Among them,the "diet domain" is the basic cognitive domain,the other cognitive domains are abstract.At the same time,the projection path between cognitive domains belonging to the metaphorical category of Chinese "eating" is concretely constructed.Furthermore,it turns out that the cultural connotation of terms that relate to Chinese "eating" mainly focus on two levels,that is,the interpersonal communication and the social life.Therefore,starting from these two levels,this paper explores the cultural connotation reflected by “eating” word group in detail,finding that the cultural root behind has something to do with the cultural orientation of Chinese people who attach importance to physical experience.
