"ku" and "bitter" are respectively one of the basic taste corresponding words in Chinese and English,and they were expressed meaning related to the sense of taste initially.The sense of taste is closely related with the people's daily life,"ku" and"bitter" semantics were abundant continuously with the development of people's cognitive ability and the needs of expression,the lexical semantics of "ku" and"bitter" enriched continuously.Until today,they could be used to represent things in various categories,rather than only sense of taste.According to word group,words that be gathered in group because of the common characteristics in the aspects of form or meaning.Based on it,we could analyze generative motivation of the meaning of"ku" and "bitter",and implicit cogitation and culture characteristics from microscopic view.Therefore,this paper takes the word group "ku" and the word group "bitter" as the main research object,combining with the prototype theory and cultural linguistics to make a comparative analysis of metaphor cognition between them on the basis of conceptual metaphor theory,and explores the causes of metaphor of "ku" and "bitter".Firstly,this paper summarizes multiple authoritative dictionary definitions of"ku" and "bitter" respectively,according to the historical investigation and the related theories of cognitive linguistics,it intends to construct the extended relation of each item,as well as to make a simple comparison.On this basis of it,this paper exhaustively collects "ku" word group and "bitter" word group,then takes primary meaning and extended meaning of "ku" and "bitter" as the semantic prototype to analyzes and classifies the semantic category,as well as analyzes and compares the metaphors involved in the semantic extension and refinement of "ku" word group in Chinese and bitter" word group in English.We discovered that the similarities of metaphor in "ku" word group and "bitter" word group reflects that human beings have the same cognitive rule,while the differences of metaphor were connected with different ways of cognition and cultural accumulation between Chinese and English.Therefore,at the last part of this paper,by analyzing the usage frequency analysis of the relevant words in the corpus of"ku" word group and "bitter" word group,and discusses culture differences between China and English-speaking countries in terms of diet culture,sensory perception,geographical environment,medicine cultures,religion and so on.
