Research On Nanyang Public School Alumni Association (1910-1949)

The colleges in West were imported goods in modern China with the deepening of the western learning spreading to the East,which made generation and development of the alumni association in the modern times of China that based on the traditional Chinese academic relationship and organization form of Western University Association.The system of the Nanyang Alumni Association were one of the have more earlier produced、more perfect development and more great influence in modern China,which gave value of research for us.In this artical,we based on knowing the system of the Nanyang Alumni Association,then explored development of interal affairs and contact network in Shanghai to understand deeply it’s internal operation and contacct in all aspects.Because of a series of schools about Nanyang and Current situation evolving constantly,the system of the Nanyang Alumni Association of the development divided roughly into three stages——1910-1920、1921-1937 and1938-1949,before the founding of new China.In the first phase,the basic framework of development was established in Shanghai,meanwhile,the branches growth slowly and self development consciously,in a word,the system of the Nanyang Alumni Association have preliminary development trend.In the second period,the Alumni Association in Shanghai and other areas have sustained development but obvious characteristic.Notablely,the Alumni Association of Jiaotong University have established in all places,and the Alumni Association of Jiaotong University in Nanjing will have prepared in 1936,which given strong internal power for the system of the Nanyang Alumni Association.In the last stage,the development of the system of the Nanyang Alumni Association was broke because of the current affairs,on the other hand,the times given burden of uniting alumni and helping school for the system of the Nanyang Alumni Association,so that they have reform and revive.In brief,the system of the Nanyang Alumni Association were more deep and broad on contacts,which revealed state of development during 1910-1949.Strong needs from inside was one of the reasons for the system of the Nanyang Alumni Association’s development,another was grew of the Nanyang Alumni Association in Shanghai.It emerged in 1910 in Shanghai,was nearly fifty years old before the People’s Republic of China established in1949.In these days,the Nanyang Alumni Association in Shanghai kept successive forward on mechanism、funds、office、magazine and activities,while had adjusted for being comfortable in reality,which gave us feelings that council had good wishes and actual efforts for growing.But for dealing with one specific things,the Nanyang Alumni Association in Shanghai was more tardier and rigid than others,they hindered from growing up for the Nanyang Alumni Association in Shanghai.The connection network in different levels was the way lead to achieve better development for the Nanyang Alumni Association in Shanghai.From different objects,the Nanyang Alumni Association in Shanghai gave comfort and help from emotion and life for alumnus,been involved in daministering 、constructing and celebrating to supporting the development of its old school,participated in serving for society to communicate with society.During contact with alumnus、Alma Mater and society,the old school recieved the most association from the Nanyang Alumni Association in Shanghai,so the maximum influences and charisma have produced each other.Overall,the effects from Nanyang Alumni Association in Shanghai was limited,have no compelling force.My artical is a example for developing of the Alumni Association,and shows some regulars from the Alumni Association in modern China.
